Painting

The paintings begin with a contour-like drawing on the canvas outdoors as a basis for the compositions. Later in the studio acrylic paint is applied. Often, I experiment with both objective and subjective color, sometimes dipping everyday objects in the paint and pressing them to the canvas for patterning and texture. By combining opposite elements in my compositions, I then work to create a balance. One method I use for creating balance and consistency is handling a body of paintings as a controlled experiment with subject, size, and medium all kept the same changing only the composition and color.
